Great interior design – in your home, business and quality of life. We are a talented group of interior designers in Devon, with a stylish design studio in Ashburton. We seek original and innovative solutions that reflect who and where you are.

Our Story

Caroline Palk and Simon Bantock set up Ashton House Design in the 1990’s so that they could share their experience in the industry with homeowners, corporate clients and property specialists.

They are a small team of interior designers working throughout Devon, Cornwall, the South West and beyond. Carrying out work in both the residential and commercial sectors, they create inspiring spaces for the home, office and hospitality, along with award winning spa interior design.

Testimonials

Happy Clients

Dartmoor Home

“From their initial design input on three of our bedrooms, several years ago, the team at Ashton House Design have embraced each new challenge with enthusiasm and imagination.”

“Repeatedly they have delivered on their promise to design appealing, practical spaces as diverse as bedrooms, bathrooms, a large kitchen/diner, holiday lets and (most recently) a detached home office that has transformed the prospect of working from home! In the near future, I hope to harness their extensive experience of spa projects to add their distinctive hallmark to the interior of a new pool project of our own.

Whilst often pushing us beyond our comfort zone, they have always listened attentively to our own preferences, and have also shown great skill at communicating with our contractors.

At all times, they have gone to great lengths to ensure that the experience of remodelling our house has been as stress free and enjoyable as possible – and I have no hesitation in recommending their highly professional and creative services to anyone seeking to safeguard the outcome of their project.”

Lincombe Spa

“Just a note to say how delighted we all are with your work on The Spa at Lincombe Hall.

As we anticipated you’ve delivered a ‘wow’ factor with masses of original features. Feedback is exceptional, membership is growing and we couldn’t be more pleased.

What we hadn’t appreciated was the extraordinary attention to detail that you would bring to the project which has resulted in a stand out spa.

Your design input has gone far beyond the original remit, your constant support has been most welcome and your diligence throughout is a credit to you.

Thank you for introducing us to a fantastic team of subcontractors.

We look forward to working with you on other key areas in the hotel later in the year when we’ve caught our breath”

Mid Devon Farmhouse

“We set out to refurbish our farmhouse with two main objectives. The first being to finish up with a comfortable and strikingly different house, that would be stylish and comfortable without being pretentious and secondly that the whole process would be enjoyable. Ashton House Design delivered in both.

Our many friends and visitors have been ‘wowed’ by the whole ambiance of the house. The process was exceedingly enjoyable. Caroline and Simon immediately picked up on design cues and managed to capture our tastes perfectly and encouraged us to step outside our comfort zone with great results.

Over the years we have accumulated an eclectic mix of possessions and furniture. Caroline skilfully drew together many of our existing pieces and added new interesting ones. Nothing was too much trouble and their eye for detail was very evident.

We recommend them highly.”

FAQs

Beautiful joinery is pivotal in some interior schemes, so this is an area we’re reluctant to relinquish to others. Our recommendations for joinery embrace visual examples, plan layouts and concept sketches. Detailed workshop drawings are delegated only to those joinery firms we have no hesitation in recommending. Their skills, coupled with our guidance to defend our clients’ interests, guarantee results that always delight.

What should I expect when working with an interior designer?

Expect to be listened to, challenged and then presented with ideas and solutions that you will never have considered. Our design team create spaces that are as bespoke as you. Every project requires different solutions and with the breadth and depth of the interior design work that we undertake, we always strive for original and inspirational interiors.

What is included in interior design drawings?

Depending on the client, we will work up detailed working plan drawings and elevations. These inform our layouts and how the space will be used, our resulting furniture suggestions, lighting and heating requirements.

Further detailed drawings and sketches may also follow on for a kitchen design, bathrooms and bespoke joinery pieces. Our design might also include bespoke furniture and furnishings, often made in Devon. We can also provide CGI and 3D visualisation walkthroughs if needed.

What happens at the first consultation with an interior design consultant?

A first meeting might be an opportunity to visit our design studio in Ashburton, Devon. Here you can meet the design team, enjoy spending time in our interior studio base that houses an incredible wallpaper and fabric library. Our studio displays the eclectic nature of our work from made to measure pieces, through to antique finds, lighting examples and much more. Our designers can also show you examples of the work taken on by our consultancy. The residential projects include country houses, luxury coastal apartments, family homes, cottages, cabin retreats and more. Whilst commercial examples include hotels, spas, a dental practice, a nail bar, offices and more. Following on from this we would normally visit you at home or at your business to take a full working brief.

How does an interior designer work?

We are often employed alongside an architect as part of the client’s design team. As a project progresses we find ourselves liaising with contractors and are totally at ease working in this way. Whether an electrician, decorator, carpenter or plumber, we supply inspiration and solutions to keep projects moving along.

Where do you work geographically?

Although based in Ashburton, Devon, we find ourselves invited to work all over the county and further afield! From South Devon, we are well placed to cover the entire county and the South West region, to include our neighbouring counties of Cornwall and Somerset. We continue to work further afield in London, Yorkshire and The Lake District and have also worked in Switzerland, Spain and Barbados.
