Local Talent
Choosing the West Country as your home is one brilliant decision you’ve made, so how about finding the right talent with those unique “Made in Devon” credentials?
We work on an enormous variety of projects throughout the region, on those that demand a range of responses and solutions. We’ve made it our business to research and hunt down all sorts of artisans, specialists and niche suppliers here in Devon.

Dream Team
Having immersed ourselves in the interior design industry for over three decades, we are totally invested in our county and all the talent that resides here. It’s a way of life for us and we started exactly as we meant to go on – building our dream green oak home on Dartmoor using the local Carpenter Oak in Dittisham. Whether a full scale build project or a romantic oak cabin for the garden, you’ll find plenty of skilled teams to realise a dream construction.

Talented Craftsmen
Inside, a skilled joiner and cabinet maker can help bring about transformative change. We work alongside the most talented craftsmen who can push boundaries. Joinery that may include characterful finishes from band-sawn through to chiselled – so many methods and skills to help make a stand-out project that is as bespoke as you. From complicated staircase designs through to stand alone furniture, there’s enormous depth and variety to be found. Complete a hand-built kitchen with the ultimate “Made in Devon worktop – a hand beaten copper top – warm, forgiving and acoustically friendly.

For many projects only a bespoke piece of joinery or two or three will do the job! Thankfully we are spoilt for choice with talented local joiners. One of our recent projects called for a room dividing bespoke bookcase, a hand built kitchen and a dedicated tv cabinet with hydraulic lift.
Local Craft Fair
A virtual visit to this years’ Bovey Craft Fair may be time well spent. Discover local sculptors, potters, wireworkers and much more. We’ve commissioned all manner of original art, steam bent lighting, willow work and wirework sculptures, all featuring heavily in various projects over the years.

Upholstered Furniture
Upholstered furniture is one of the biggest investments we’ll make for our homes and with so many options to chose from, it can be hard to figure out what’s right for you. With decades of experience in this field alone, we’ve quite literally got this covered, all made in Devon of course! Skilled craftsmen upholstering in traditional methods, with longevity at the heart of their craft, we continue to reupholster pieces that we supplied back in the nineties! We will take into account your interior style whilst finding something that fits you – comfort, style and colour all depend on how you see yourself. Flexibility is a favourite amongst us interior designers so what better candidate for this role than the swivel armchair. A swivel action that remains concealed beneath an informal loose cover – this chair forms part of a range of splendid bespoke upholstery that is beautifully tailored in the finishing. We’ve made it our mission to help customers achieve the finest possible seating for their home or business. Enjoy the process – this is the very best of retail therapy – all in Devon!

Hand Sewn
Continue the tailored thread with beautifully sewn and exquisitely proportioned window treatments. We’re also blessed with some super talented seamstresses here in the county. Whether luxuriously lined and interlined with hand-stitched headings or sleek contemporary ‘wave’ voiles, we’ve got your windows covered in the making and planning of these endless meterages.
Best of the rest
Commission other specialist makers such as a talented metalworker to create bespoke lighting solutions. Specialist stove suppliers will ensure the fire is at the heart of a home, whilst antique mirrored glass manufacturers really do put the wow into an evocative elevation to set a scene.
Elsewhere in the county, order a hand-sprung Emperor mattress, that’s a 7’ square bed, and sleep like a princess. Step out from your slumber onto a tactile and textural rug – with the ultimate ‘green’ credentials, made from recycled plastic bottles, here in Devon of course.
For this project we were asked to create a more intimate ambience in a chilly dining room. Designing this suspended lighting canopy we worked alongside a local blacksmith to create a perfectly proportioned piece on which to display a collection of remote controlled, battery operated, real wax candles. This circumnavigated the need to disturb a lathe and plaster ceiling, whilst adding flickering ambient interest over the table. Importantly, this lighting feature would be a welcoming feature as one approaches the house. Panels of antique mirrored glass offer an interesting backdrop to reflect our clients’ curation of spirits and glasses in a bar we designed to occupy centre stage in their estuary home. Situated above a bespoke hand finished floor cupboard with sliding doors and quirky finishing, the whole ensemble makes for a focal point in this party home.
Ashburton Town Centre
Don’t overlook the vibrant town of Ashburton, where we’ve worked for the last three decades. Full of specialist artisan shops and businesses on the edge of Dartmoor – positively one of the best advocates for the whole buy local and “Made in Devon” approach.
FAQ’S
Q: Do you have a favourite ‘Made in Devon’ piece for 2020?
A: A bespoke timber cabin for a garden in the South Hams. Home office, garden hideaway, family games room or retreat – this cabin will be ticking all the boxes when completed this summer.
Q: What do you most enjoy about working in Devon?
A: I love being able to live and work in the county I grew up in! The variety of work, the contrast of moorland, coastal and city – so much to inspire.
Q: After weeks of staying in, how do you think homeowners are seeing their current homes?
A: Most people will be re-evaluating their current homes, looking to find/create more space and establishing separate work spaces for all members of the family. As interior designers we can rework existing spaces and ensure maximum use of every zone without destroying the ebb and flow of the interior.
