The Deskette

We are constantly looking to maximise opportunities where they don’t seemingly exist. A client recently referred to our “curiosity, creativity, and energy”.

Applying these principles as we do to our daily interior designing tasks we feel especially pleased to have coined a new phrase – the ‘deskette’.

You may already have a dedicated study or workspace but having another location close by to the main hub of the home is always a useful addition. A compact workstation – somewhere to catch up on home admin and the occasional email, can be life changing. When you’re feeling time poor, having a dedicated surface close by whilst you’re cooking, child minding and helping with homework can be invaluable. Somewhere to grab 10 minutes away from the cooking zone, where a laptop and notes are safe from spillages. Maybe a pull out desktop will help provide extra desktop space too. Site a charging station here, pop-up plugs and a fitted  pinboard on which to pin reminders, favourite cards and the like. Press into action a favourite fabric, wallpaper or textural cork to meet the desired aesthetic.

A neat stool may provide you with a perch for the occasional workstation and can easily be lifted into place at the dining table to serve an additional place setting when numbers swell.

For one client, we created a his and hers ‘deskette’ – the chosen destination in the hub of the home between kitchen and dining  – particularly favoured as the holiday booking perch – how brilliant! So take a look around, find a redundant niche, an under stairs cubby, an unloved corner on the landing or reimagine some fitted joinery, all adapted and transformed for your very own ‘deskette’.
