“A room should never allow the eye to settle in one place. It should smile at you and create fantasy.” Juan Montoya
Choosing a rug can really help deliver the above! It is a big decision – a rug is impactful, they can be costly and they are key furnishings in an interior. It is worth considering a budget and style from the outset – this will help steer towards a supplier, whether a mass produced piece or hopefully, a stunning centrepiece to truly enhance an interior scheme.
See our East Devon Family Home Project featuring custom rugs.

Whatever your decision, there will be a rug out there that’s perfect for you. Their inclusion needs to be carefully planned. Respect the design process – a plan drawing will help to determine the best size, whether you want furniture on or off the rug for example. Avoid sofas and chairs being on/half off, this causes problems with skirts, swivel motions and wobbly legs and feet.

If in doubt, always go larger and fill the space – this can maximise the impact!

Where budget and time allow, commissioning a hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces is an absolute privilege. Here lies an opportunity to design a rug for a particular space, deliver joy and to be a future heirloom. Such rugs take months to create and having progress images is fascinating, reassuring and a wonderful record of the process.

For some, a special rug is rather like a work of art. This needs space, good light and the right furniture to complement.
We have hung carpets too – they add a softening acoustic to a room – great for lofty staircases – creating a piece of wall art all the while.
